An AI-built app is running. Is it ready for customers?
A practical review of the gap between generated scaffolding and a releasable product.
Review what sits behind the interface.
A working screen does not establish that the backend logic, data handling or connected services are complete. Pick the critical user journeys and follow them from input to stored result, including what happens when a step fails.
Five areas to examine before release
1. Implementation completeness
Identify unfinished logic, placeholder behaviour, missing integrations and functions that only work with development data. Establish what the product must actually do at launch.
2. Access and data handling
Review who can read and change data, how permissions are enforced and where sensitive operations take place. The UI hiding an action is not enough to establish that the action is protected.
3. Failure behaviour
Understand what happens when a dependency times out, a request is repeated or an operation completes only partway. The response should fit the system’s actual state.
4. The production environment
Check the deployment, configuration, dependencies and operating conditions that will differ from local development. A local success should not be treated as a production result.
5. Operational ownership
Confirm who owns the code, accounts and infrastructure, and who will investigate an incident after launch. Recovery is harder when essential access and knowledge are missing.
That was one of the problems in our US banking software rescue, alongside server crashes and security failures. The amount of scaffolding in a repository did not establish launch readiness.
Turn the gaps into a decision.
Record the findings, their effect on launch and the work needed to address them. Some parts may be reusable; others may require repair or replacement. A useful review makes those choices explicit.
This is a starting framework for a discussion, not a certification or a complete security-testing methodology.
